The new tactical colony sim game Dig In, developed by Vitar Games, takes players straight into the harsh reality of trench warfare during World War I. Set in September 1914, the game presents a slow but relentless conflict where victory depends not on advancement – but on survival.
At the core of the gameplay is digging and expanding trenches that serve as a base for your soldiers – a place where they eat, sleep, and fight. The battlefield is fully destructible, and artillery constantly alters the terrain, forcing you to adapt and make quick decisions. Setting up barbed wire in no man's land, building defensive points, and cleverly directing the enemy are key to survival.
As a commander, you will lead troops from various nations, including France, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, Russia, and the German Empire, with additional factions arriving during the Early Access phase. However, war is not just about tactics – the morale of the soldiers plays a crucial role. Your men were recently civilians – bakers, farmers, and workers – and now depend on your decisions.
The game places a strong emphasis on logistics and resource management. You will need to ensure food, shelter, and a continuous supply while balancing soldier exhaustion and the demands of superiors. Will you invest in the well-being of the troops or focus solely on combat readiness?
Another feature of the game is complete freedom of approach – you can aggressively charge across no man's land or choose a slower, methodical line-holding strategy. Additionally, mod support has been announced, which could further extend the game's lifespan and open doors for the creative community.
Dig In is coming to Steam in Early Access later this year, and you can already add it to your wishlist.
