High seas and pirates have always been a popular theme in video games and one of the most beloved genres. Games like Sid Meier's Pirates, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Secret of Monkey Island, and Sea of Thieves have found their place in the history of the industry and are still titles that players enjoy today.
The indie development team Kraken Express has once again taken players into the role of pirates this year with the hit title Windrose, which was released on April 14 in early access on PC. It is an action survival adventure set in an alternate age of piracy, combining exploration, sailing, and crafting various items both at sea and on land. Our characters visit various parts of the land that contain many secrets, dungeons, and missions, while in naval battles we take control of our own ship and crew.
The story of Windrose is set after an attack initiated by the infamous pirate Blackbeard (Edward Teach), which plunged the world into chaos. By combining his fleet and supernatural powers, Teach once turned the paradise of Tortuga into hell, leading to the emergence of various pirate factions that chose to fight against him or simply try to survive (Rogue Buccaneers, Brethren of the Coast, Smugglers of Port Royal, and People of Tortuga).
Windrose has been excellently received by both media and audiences, selling a million copies in the first six days after its release and gathering over 200,000 players. The team stated that this achievement meant a lot to them and that they are following every comment and video content created for the game. Kraken Express is also diligently working on updates, and according to the latest, they have fixed a major SSD issue, made 50 fixes and improvements, and added 40 new building items.
It has also been announced that Windrose will soon receive a new major expansion called Ashland, described as: "a dangerous new biome taken over by the undead and covered in volcanic ash." A complete plan for further development is expected to be announced soon.
