Sony is already working on PlayStation 6, but the main message from architect Mark Cerny is clear – PS6 is still a "multi-year project," and we do not expect it anytime soon. Although the development of the next-gen console began after the release of PlayStation 5, the new Sony console is unlikely to hit the market before 2027 or even during 2028.

It is already known that Sony, in collaboration with AMD, is working on technologies like Project Amethyst – focused on machine learning, frame generation, and ray regeneration – with the goal of achieving high graphical quality and performance, the foundation for the new generation of consoles. An improved FSR 4 algorithm is already being tested for the PlayStation 5 Pro version, indicating the direction in which PlayStation 6 will move.

Sony clearly emphasizes that it remains committed to its hardware console strategy – with local gaming functionalities and a lack of reliance solely on the cloud. PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro will continue to receive support and significant upgrades, and there is no rush to transition to the next generation.

With the historical cycle of new generation Sony consoles – PlayStation 2 (2000), PlayStation 3 (2006), PlayStation 4 (2013), PlayStation 5 (2020) – it is possible that PlayStation 6 will arrive on the market between 2027 and 2028. Due to the lost years during the coronavirus pandemic and the lack of exclusive games that utilize the power of the PlayStation 5 console, it is expected that Sony will likely not rush the release of PlayStation 6.

I believe that there are at least two to three years left until the official presentation. Until then, PlayStation 5 Pro remains the best choice for PlayStation enthusiasts, with expected improvements in performance and visuals compared to the base model of the PlayStation 5 console.
