Squirrel with a gun - the funnest game we played in 2024!

Squirrel with a Gun is a cute, funny, and silly game about, believe it or not, a squirrel! The squirrel comes across a secret weapon that it thinks is a big golden acorn and eats it. After that, an alarm goes off, and a military of secret agents starts chasing that same little squirrel, which doesn't even understand what's happening.

When we say silly game, we mean it in the best possible way! The gameplay is fluid with good controls and it's quite easy to grasp what to do next. However, it should be noted that the game does not hold your hand at any moment and does not tell you where to go or what to do. When we exited the secret laboratory where the story begins, we found ourselves in a smaller open world with several locations to choose from - two houses and a skate park. At each location, it is possible to collect a certain number of golden acorns, and by collecting them, we can unlock new things.

The new things we can unlock vary from weapons to clothing items and even vehicles. In the game, we have access to a pistol, uzi (SMG), grenade launcher, shotgun, bazooka revolver, and bombs that activate on hit available throughout the map. For vehicles, we have a small car, something like a remote-controlled car, and a boat for the later part of the game.

After collecting enough golden acorns, "Dad" emerges from his bunker, appearing in his tank. From the moment "Dad" shows up, the entrance to his bunker becomes available to us, and we actually reach the first boss, popularly known as the "Boss fight".

Defeating the "Dad" agent isn't overly challenging, but it takes a bit of time to figure out exactly what needs to be done to drain the mentioned boss's energy. After we defeated the "Dad" agent, we returned to the open world on the street and unlocked an additional part of the map that hadn't been available until that moment, and only then do we reach the part where we can, if the number of collected golden acorns is sufficient, afford the little boat we mentioned earlier. Interestingly, the boat is made of 2 parts, which makes the game even funnier. One of those two parts is the boat itself, but the other part of the boat is, no less, a banana surf that is towed behind the boat. We have the choice to sit on one or the other part and drive the boat from the selected perspective.

We must admit, it's fun and funny to control a little squirrel with a big gun and armed with the other listed weapons in realistic locations in a platformer style, while also fighting against agents of a secret force. The executions themselves aren't overly brutal, but they are done in the manner of the best action movies for children and young adults.

Besides the gameplay, the attention to detail is quite intriguing. Especially for perfectionists trying to collect everything the game offers, this is exceptionally well done. So, when we dress our squirrel in a dress and give it a female gender, the squirrel starts to run, but as long as it doesn't have a dress, it runs classically on four legs. In the clothing selection, there's also a bomb disposal team suit. This suit protects us from any explosions at the cost of movement speed. There are also a watch strap, a white formal suit, a wedding ring as a hat, a fancy hat, various fur colors, a cowboy hat, etc. In any case, there are plenty of clothing items to choose from, especially for those who enjoy engaging in photo mode in games where it's available; namely, this fun game also has a photo mode.

If you're looking for a game that will make you laugh and entertain you for a few hours of gameplay, and you're a fan of dark humor, we definitely recommend Squirrel With a Gun. Priced affordably (19.99 euros for the digital edition and 29.99 euros for the physical edition), it is available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 (tested version).
