On the occasion of the celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Ed Annunziata announced a new Ecco the Dolphin game. Annunziata is best known as the creator of the Ecco series and worked on the first two titles for Mega Drive and Genesis as well as the Ecco Jr. spin-off.

"The entire original team and I are working on the remaster of the first Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time, after which we will make a third game." Ed invited players to follow the official website where there is a countdown to April 25, 2026.

Ecco the Dolphin was released in December 1992 and was praised for its graphics and music, but also received some negativity due to its difficulty. The sequel Tides of Time appeared in 1994 on Mega Drive / Genesis and later on Mega CD/Sega CD.

With the release of Ecco Jr., the series was dormant until 2000 when Sega released Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future on Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, Annunziata was not involved with this game, and it was a departure as it was not a 2D side-scroller but a 3D adventure.

Ed Annunziata attempted in 2013 to create a successor to Ecco called The Big Blue through crowdfunding.
