The upcoming adaptation of Resident Evil will premiere on September 18, 2026, revealed the portal Deadline. In January, we reported that the series would receive a reboot and that Netflix and Warner Bros. were interested in the distribution rights, but in the meantime, they ended up in the hands of Sony, specifically its studio PlayStation Productions.
Sony has also been the distributor of all previous films (animations and live-action), which includes Welcome to Raccoon City from 2021.
Film director Zach Cregger told the portal: "I have been a passionate fan of the games for decades, and it is a true honor to bring these great titles to the big screen."
Robert Kuzler from Constantin Film, who will be one of the producers and a source of financing, added: "The world of Resident Evil through Zach's vision is an excellent endeavor."
President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Sanford Panitch commented on Cregger: "Zach is one of the most talented new directors on the scene in the last couple of years. His brilliant approach to rebooting and refreshing the legendary series is one of our biggest releases for 2026.
