Netflix has officially approved a series based on the Ubisoft action franchise Assassin's Creed. The series will be created by Emmy-nominated Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing).

The Assassin's Creed series is an action thriller whose story deals with a theme similar to the video games, namely the war between two factions: one that seeks to rule through manipulation and control, and the other through free will. The series will follow characters through key historical moments to shape the fate of the world.

"We are so excited to work with Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners to bring this beloved franchise to life," said Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content for Ubisoft Film & Television. "We look forward to providing the experience that fans love about Assassin's Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to a new audience around the globe."

"We have been fans of Assassin's Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we are excited and honored by the possibilities that Assassin's Creed opens up for us," said Wiener and Patino in a joint statement. "Beneath the scope, spectacle, parkour, and excitement lies the foundation for the most essential kind of human story - about people seeking purpose, grappling with questions of identity, destiny, and faith. It's about power, violence, sex, greed, and revenge. But more than anything, this is a series about the value of human connection, across cultures, through time. And it's about what we will lose as a species when those connections are broken. We have an incredible team behind us with people at Ubisoft and Netflix and we are committed to creating something undeniable for fans around the world."

"When we first announced our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, we set out with an ambitious goal to bring the rich, expansive world of Assassin's Creed to life in bold new ways," said Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Netflix, Scripted Series. "Now, after years of dedicated collaboration, it’s inspiring to see where that vision has come. Led by the deft hands of Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the Assassin's Creed franchise and invites long-time fans and newcomers to experience the excitement of Brotherhood like never before."

Netflix will also be home to another series based on the Ubisoft franchise this fall, which is Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
