The portal Tech4Gamers has revealed a new Sony patent related to the evolution of game controllers. According to the available documentation, the idea is to add a special button to the existing controller design that would rewind time in a manner similar to the rewind function in video game emulators. The location of this button is revealed in the sketch below.
The patent officially titled ‘GAMEPLAY REWIND WITH USER TRIGGERED BOOKMARKS’ describes enabling players to manually "bookmark" any moment during gameplay, allowing them to return to that part with a simple button press at any time—Sony believes that players do not remember every detail of gameplay and story, and this would help forgetful players. Additionally, this patent would assist those who enjoy replaying or playing specific parts of games for various reasons.
The concept described in this patent is likely to come to fruition in a few years when Sony officially announces the PlayStation 6 console, which is expected to hit the market no earlier than 2028. Let’s hope that with this evolution of gaming on the new generation of consoles, there will be options to enable bonus features during gameplay (for example, unlimited lives, immortality, speeding up or slowing down time, unlocking all items, etc.). Given the large number of games coming to the market and the inability to play 100% of all titles that interest us, such assistance in the style of old cheats would be very welcome.
