When he appeared ARC Raiders, many greeted him with a dose of curiosity and skepticism. Another "extraction shooter"? Another combination of PvE and PvP elements in a post-apocalyptic setting? But after a few hours in his world, it becomes clear that Embark Studios was not just aiming for "another attempt", but a recognizable identity within the genre.

ARC

ARC Raiders takes place in a dystopian version of Earth under siege by mechanical enemies, the cold, unrelenting machines known as ARCs. Players take on the role of "raiders", soldier-gatherers who rise to the surface to find resources, avoid danger and make it out alive. This concept hides what makes the game tense: every outing is a struggle between greed and survival. Will you risk going one step further for better loot, or will you retreat while you still have something to take?

The action is strong and precise. The weapons have weight and character, and the third-person combat is surprisingly smooth. Any situation can turn into chaos if you don't pay attention to the angles, noise and position of the enemy. PvE elements with robotic hordes create a sense of constant threat, while the presence of other players adds uncertainty and an extra layer of paranoia. That way, you never know if a character in the distance is an ally, a robber, or someone waiting to sneak up behind you while you're dealing with machines.

What ARC Raiders does very well is create atmosphere. The world looks and sounds alive, even though it is devastated. The sound of footsteps in the dust, the distant roar of mechanized enemies and the noise of the radio create an anxiety reminiscent of the best moments of survival games. Graphically, Embark Studios made an effort. Textures are detailed, particle and light effects are impressive, and weapon and equipment designs exude retro-futuristic charm.

On the other hand, ARC Raiders is not without its flaws. The learning curve can be steep, especially for players who aren't used to losing gear upon death. The progression system can sometimes seem too linear, and the repetitiveness of the missions becomes obvious after several hours of playing. Also, while the game offers interesting cooperative and combat mechanics, there is still a need for deeper endgame content that would keep players engaged for more than a few weeks.

ARC 05

Still, despite these flaws, ARC Raiders manages to convey a sense of adventure and risk that many modern shooters lack. It's not a game that holds your hand. She makes you learn, take risks and survive. All in all, it's a project with soul, a game that may not change the genre, but will make it more interesting.

Conclusion:

ARC Raiders is a fresh, energetic and technically impressive achievement that shows that the extraction shooter genre still has room for innovation. While it doesn't strike a perfect balance between depth and accessibility, its atmosphere, presentation, and sense of combat make it an experience worth your time. It's not without its frustrations, but when it all works and you're in the middle of a battle, with limited ammo and the sound of robots approaching, you realize that's exactly what the game is all about: surviving long enough to talk about it.
