Upin & Ipin Universe is an open world video game based on the popular Malaysian animated series Upin & Ipin. It was released on July 17, 2025 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). It was developed by Streamline Studios in collaboration with Les' Copaque Production (creators of cartoons), and is published by Streamline Media Group. It's an open-world adventure that brings the charm of tropical Southeast Asian village life to the screens of players around the world. The game takes us to Kampung Durian Runtuh, a colorful cartoon village, faithfully recreated with the authentic sights, sounds and customs of a Malaysian kampung (village).
As a player, you take on the role of twins Upin and Ipin and embark on a heartfelt adventure: helping your neighbors, discovering local legends and immersing yourself in the rich Malaysian culture. The game is non-linear – right from the start the entire village world is open to explore at your own pace, without strict guidelines or time limits. This means that children can roam freely, ride bicycles on country roads, climb trees and towers, swim in the river or discover hidden forest paths - all through play and curiosity. Along with the main story which lasts around 12 hours, the game features numerous activities and mini-games such as gardening, fishing, cooking, racing and even light combat. What's particularly interesting is that it supports two-player split-screen local multiplayer, so a parent and child (or friends) can play together as Upin and Ipin on the same device. There are no microtransactions or additional paid content - everything is included in the starting price of the game.
The presentation of the game is true to the spirit dash. Graphics je topla i šarena, s bogatim bojama i detaljno prikazanim seoskim okruženjem koje dočarava nostalgični ugođaj djetinjstva na selu. Razvijena u modernom Unreal Engine 5 pokretaču, igra vizualno djeluis andmpresivno – modeli likova vjerno pware originalni dizajn, a okoliš obiluje autentičnim detaljthere is (npr. kokosove palme, tržnica, polja riže). Posebno oduševljava how su preneseni kulturni elementi: od zvukova cvrčaka i krijesnica u sumrak do tradicionalnih igara like vrtnje zvrka (gasing). Likovi govore glasovthere is na malajskom i in English jeziku, what će rijetkim obožavateljthere is na ovim prostorthere is be poznato i autentično (provjeror smo - glasovi Upina i Ipina zvuče baš as in the series!). Music and soundovi pridonose ugodnoj atmosferi, premda su pomalo suzdržani i funkcionalni – there is none izrazito upečatljivog soundtracka, already diskretno pware zbivanja u igri.
By design, this is a title primarily designed for children and family gaming. The creators stated that they wanted "a safe, fun game that we can play with our children", noting that Upin & Ipin Universe is designed for families, children and the "young at heart". Management is therefore simple and adapted to younger players - the mechanics are not complex, and the challenges in the game are mild and forgivable. There is no violence except for mild "fantasy" action suitable for children Local cooperative play in split-screen mode additionally encourages parents and children to participate in the adventure together, which adds to the value of the game as family entertainment.

As an educational and entertaining title, it stands out for its portrayal of Malaysian culture and encouraging free, stress-free play. On the other hand, more experienced players might find the game too simple and technically unfinished. If we look at objective qualities, it is obvious that the project suffers from certain shortcomings in content and execution. Despite this, it is recommended that everyone who is looking for a casual, family game try it.
Overall, Upin & Ipin Universe delivers a unique, charming experience of children's adventure. Given its target audience, it serves its purpose as a fun, safe game for kids!
