Project Tower, an indie third-person shooter from Yummy Games, was released on January 6, 2025 on PC (Steam, Epic) and PlayStation 5. The game puts you in the shoes of a prisoner captured by the alien Hyksos and forced to climb inside a mysterious tower, fighting hordes of unknown creatures and solving puzzles.
The title's main asset is the metamorphosis mechanic – players can take the form of enemies or objects to overcome obstacles or surprise opponents. This element brings freshness and creativity, although critics state that it tends to be underused.
The combat system combines classic weapons (pistol, automatic rifle, shotgun) with bullet‑hell elements during boss fights, where players avoid dense projectiles while returning fire. Visually, the game is impressive, with impressive level and enemy designs, but it suffers from uneven animations, slippery camera controls, and occasional texture clipping.
Although the gameplay is fun and sometimes adrenaline-filled, it is average in nature, that is, the gaming experience is not cohesive. The game itself is very short - about 6 to 8 hours - and in addition to the digital edition, there is also a physical edition available for the PlaStation 5 console.
In conclusion, Project Tower is an ambitious indie project with original ideas like metamorphosis and third-person bullet-hell combat. However, due to technical limitations, short duration and lack of depth in performance, it remains an interesting but unexpressed title. If you're looking for a new action formula with a twist, it's worth trying - especially through a demo or on sale.
