The legendary arcade platformer Icy Tower, which marked the early 2000s, is coming back in a new guise — a "from the ground up" version is planned for release in 2026 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release.
The return of the favorite challenge
The original creators of the game, Johan Peitz and Anders “Neo” Svensson, join forces again to bring a modern version Icy Tower. The new title will keep that simplicity and addiction that many have come to love — climbing an endless tower, performing combo jumps for record scores, with the risk of one mistake sending it all back to the beginning.
The new version also brings additional modern elements:
- Hand-drawn pixel artefacts and carefully animated characters
- Live-recorded music that evokes the atmosphere while you climb
- Ability to share replays so players can show their best performances
- Various characters with different styles, new backgrounds and “biome” conditions through which the tower changes
Why now? - 25 years Icy Tower
The release date is no coincidence — the remake comes as part of the 25th anniversary of the original game. The announcements emphasize that the project is not only a nostalgic return, but also an attempt to combine the spirit of the old school with modern design approaches.
