At this year's Gamescom, an expansion for Starfield, called Shattered Space, was presented, and according to the first information, it seems to bring an interesting continuation of space exploration. The release date is announced for September 30, and in addition to new stories, players will also get a new vehicle that will make it even easier to move through the game's landscapes.
What does Shattered Space bring?
The expansion takes us into the world of the mysterious Va'ruun people, a faction that was present in the base game but didn't get much attention. Here, the focus is placed on the planet Va’ruun’kai, and players will experience completely hand-crafted locations, meaning there are no procedurally generated elements. It brings the classic Bethesda feel, which players may be used to from the studio's previous games. The city of Dazra, the capital of Va'ruun, will be the focal point of the expansion, full of interesting locations and secrets.
The story begins in an abandoned space station and then takes players to Va'ruun'kai where they will discover catastrophic events with far-reaching consequences. This expansion, unlike the base game which had a more optimistic tone, will have a darker and more complex narrative line, which will appeal to those players who like a darker, horror approach to space adventures.
New game elements
One of the most striking new features is the Vortex Horror, a new type of enemy from another dimension, which will be a big challenge, especially for lower level players. In addition to new enemies, the expansion also brings new weapons, equipment, and the REV-8 vehicle to the base game, which is designed for easier terrain exploration.
While we still know very little about the upcoming game, the information about the expansion sounds promising, especially for those who enjoyed the narrative aspects of the base game. Handcrafted locations, a more complex story, and new challenges could be just what players need to return to the Starfield universe again.
