Team Ninja has officially announced Nioh 3 at Sony's State of Play event on June 4, 2025. This sequel to the popular action RPG franchise brings new combat system, expanded exploration options and an exciting story set in a world full of yokai monsters.
New combat mechanics
Players will be able to choose between Samurai i Ninja fighting styles. Samurai style stays true to the classic Nioh experience, with additional techniques like Arts Proficiency-a, which enhances the power of martial arts, and Deflect, which makes it possible to block enemy attacks at the last moment. On the other hand, Ninja style brings fast movements, avoidance and air attack possibilities, with special techniques like Mist, which leaves a clone after an attack, and Escape, which enables precise avoidance of enemy blows.
Open world and movement
Producer Nioh 3 Kohei Shibata confirms that the game will be based on exploring the terrain and entering challenging underground worlds, with exploration being key to improving the character and acquiring new equipment and skills.
Additionally, Team Ninja confirms that Nioh 3 it won't have any form of vehicle or mounted animal to move around the open terrain, but players will be able to acquire a special skill that allows them to quickly move between locations.
According to the announcement, Nioh 3 will be available starting in 2026 for PlayStation 5. For those who can't wait, demo version game is already available for download.
