Home / News / Holy Shoot – a hell of a fun shooter that makes you want to go for another round

Holy Shoot is a chaotic roguelite first-person shooter set in a satirical vision of hell, which quickly won the hearts of players and critics with its fast-paced and fun action. Although it is an Early Access game, the reactions of the players who have tried the game are extremely positive - it already has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam! It seems that the indie studio Tale Era Interactive has clearly struck a chord with fans of frenetic shooters, offering a combination of humor, style and adrenaline that keeps the attention from the first minute. Given the cartoonish graphic style and fast-paced gameplay that seems appealing, we decided to play the game, and give our opinion on whether it's worth buying?

We have to admit, Holy Shoot is visually captivating at first glance. As we stated at the beginning of this review, the graphic style uses high-contrast cel-shading, with thick cartoon outlines and vibrant colors reminiscent of a fusion of comic book aesthetics and Borderlands. Despite still being in development, the game looks surprisingly polished, with vibrant environments, impressive weapon displays, and crazy enemies. Each level is thematically dedicated to one of the Seven Deadly Sins, but hell is not shown here in a dark and gloomy way, but through a satirical filter full of grotesque caricatures and dark humor. For a complete experience, there is also an energetic heavy metal soundtrack in Doom style, which raises the adrenaline and perfectly accompanies the chaotic action on the screen!

Playfulness and action

When it comes to gameplay, Holy Shoot offers relentlessly fast-paced, “arcade” action. The game constantly forces you to move and shoot, turning each arena into a colorful fireworks display of missiles and explosions. The primary roguelite loop - a series of short "runs" through procedurally generated arenas - is extremely addictive. Each new run brings different combinations of weapons, perks and enemies, which gives that overwhelming "just one more round" feeling. The arsenal is rich and varied, from classic shotguns and rocket launchers to unusual "holy" guns and gadgets, so it's fun to try out different shooting styles. The boss fights stand out in particular – each boss embodies a sin and comes with unique attacks and exaggerated personality, making the final battles the real highlight of every session.

Humor and originality

Humor is one of the strongest weapons of this game. Holy Shoot does not take itself too seriously – on the contrary, it parodies its own infernal theme with pleasure. The story of the secret organization Sanctum that sends "blessed" heroes to clean up hell is served through witty dialogues and wacky characters. Every detail oozes with sarcastic jokes and pop-culture references, and the final boss fights are staged as much for laughs as they are for challenge. It is this unburdened, satirical approach that gives the game its originality and charm.

Conclusion

All in all, Holy Shoot turned out to be a real surprise on the indie scene – a damn good shooter that combines frenetic action and humor in an original way. Addictive fast-paced gameplay, striking visual style and goofy comedic touch make it an experience that doesn't go down easily. And although the game is still in the early stages of development, it already provides a lot of fun and has all the predispositions to grow into a big hit. If you are looking for an unusual, humorous and adrenaline-filled FPS experience, Holy Shoot is definitely a title that deserves your attention.

Remark: The full release of the game is planned for the end of 2026, and will bring four playable heroes, co-op gameplay, all seven themed worlds with bosses that embody deadly sins, even more weapons, new types of enemies and gameplay improvements.
