Game Freak, the studio known for the Pokémon series, announced earlier this week a new action RPG Beast of Reincarnation, coming in 2026 for PlayStation5, Xbox SeriesX/S and PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store). The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one
The story is set in post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026. The main character, Emma the Sealer, the damned "Blighted One", travels through a dangerous, mutated world together with her dog Koo. During the adventure, their relationship grows stronger, unlocking unusual powers.
Combat relies on a demanding, technical soulslike style, with an emphasis on parrying and precise attacks. The visuals are inspired by the aesthetics of Studio Ghibli, but in a much darker tone.
The project was originally developed under the name Project Bloom, and after Private Division was handed over to the new publishing house Fictions, a contract was signed with a team consisting of former members of Private Division and Annapurna Interactive.
Beast of Reincarnation brings a radical turn for Game Freak - the studio remains faithful to adventures, but this time in a much more mature, post-apocalyptic and challenging guise
