Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 promises to be one of the most exciting installments in the history of the series. After we got Black Ops 6 last year, the creators Treyarch and Raven Software decided to treat us with another continuation of the Black Ops saga just a year later. This time the plot takes us to the near future, bringing back iconic characters and bold innovations in the campaign, multiplayer and Zombies mode. Below, we bring you all the key details – from release date and platforms, to story and gameplay features, to the technology that powers the game – to show you why Black Ops 7 might be the biggest Call of Duty yet.

Release date and platform

First, mark the date: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is coming out soon on November 14, 2025. The game will be available on all current platforms – PC (Battle.net and Steam), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Despite the transition of many series exclusively to the new generation of consoles, Black Ops 7 will also support older consoles, which will please players who have not yet switched to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. It has also been confirmed that the game will be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on consoles and PC from day one. For those impatient, an open beta was also held at the beginning of October, where players could try new features in multiplayer before the release.

Action and cooperative campaign

Black Ops 7 takes place in the year 2035, forty years after the events of Black Ops 6, and directly continues the story of the classic Black Ops 2. The world is on the brink of chaos, torn apart by violent conflicts and psychological warfare after the turbulent endings of the previous installments. It is in this dark context that the infamous terrorist Raul Menendez - the villain of Black Ops 2 - returns, threatening to burn the world in three days via a terrifying video message. His return shocks the global public, and the mega-corporation The Guild, known for technological innovation, offers protection to humanity where governments have failed.

In the role of David “Section” Mason, son of the legendary Alex Mason, players lead an elite JSOC team of operatives on a covert mission in the futuristic Mediterranean city of Avalon. Mason's team (including the returning Mike Harper and other veterans) soon discovers an experimental weapon designed to turn fear into a weapon - technology that can psychologically break entire armies and destabilize the world order. After being exposed to this neuro-weapon, reality begins to crack for the heroes - missions take on surreal forms, distorted scenes from their memories come to life, and the line between reality and hallucinations is erased in a vortex of paranoia. The story delves deeper into the minds of the characters than ever before, delivering a unique, mind-bending campaign that blends the thriller and sci-fi elements of the Black Ops series.

A special treat is that the entire campaign is playable in cooperative mode - for the first time in the history of the series, you can go through the story with a team of up to four players, or of course alone. Crossing missions together brings a new dimension of strategy and fun, because team coordination becomes essential in the fight against enemies and your own inner demons. Throughout the campaign, the favorite characters of the series return - in addition to Mason and Menendez, a new heroine Emma Kagan, the enigmatic executive director of The Guild, also appears, who brings an additional dose of intrigue. The highlight of the story is the completely new Endgame segment - the final, replayable open-ended mission in which the city of Avalon is completely opened to the players. In Endgame, you'll be free to explore, unlock special abilities, and customize your loadout, while facing unexpected challenges that test everything you've learned throughout the campaign. This innovative campaign epilogue is a bold step forward and redefines what a Call of Duty story can be.

Multiplayer news and content

Multiplayer Black Ops 7 continues to build on the recognizable formula of frenetic action, but also brings a number of new features that will please both veterans and new players. As many as 16 maps for classic 6v6 modes are waiting for us at the release, of which 13 are completely new, and 3 are remastered legendary maps from Black Ops 2. Nostalgia will work in iconic locations, while fresh maps will take us to diverse landscapes - from the neon panoramas of futuristic Tokyo to the harsh, frozen wastelands of Alaska. In addition to the standard maps, there are two brand new large maps adapted for 20v20 player battles, aimed at those who crave epic skirmishes on wider battlefields.

One of the main attractions is the new "Skirmish" game mode – an adrenaline-pumping 20v20 battle that combines several different objectives, intense vehicle warfare and even new movement options such as using wingsuits and grappling hooks on the battlefield. Skirmish on huge maps brings chaotic fun and a sense of real war chaos, redefining the concept of large battles in the Black Ops world. Of course, fans of traditional game modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination and Search & Destroy will still have plenty to play on the classic 6v6 maps, which combine Treyarch's cutting-edge design school with a new level of visual detail.

A novelty that will especially affect the gameplay is the upgraded movement system, called Omnimovement. Already introduced in Black Ops 6, Omnikreation is now further polished and expanded – players can perform acrobatic wall jumps and other parkour moves, and even wall running, which opens up completely new creative possibilities in outwitting enemies. The dynamics of the fight have been raised to a higher level by adding verticality: imagine tense duels where you can surprise the enemy by jumping from a wall or quickly swooping down with the help of a wingsuit from the air. There's also a new Overclock gear progression system – for the first time in Black Ops, you can upgrade your Scorestreaks, field gear, and lethal and tactical gadgets during a match. The more you use them, the more effective they become; each round played contributes to unlocking the full potential of your arsenal. This system encourages players to stay true to their favorite tools of destruction and "charge" them to maximum power over time. In addition, Black Ops 7 launches with an impressive 30 types of weapons (28 firearms and 2 melee), including 16 completely new ones that we have not seen before in the series. The entire arsenal follows the near-future aesthetic of 2035, including prototype weapons and gadgets that blend reality and science fiction.

For those who like extra challenges and "hidden" content, there is also Dead Ops Arcade 4 - the fourth iteration of the popular top-down arcade shooter hidden within the game. Dead Ops Arcade returns after a long absence, offering old-school co-op arcade fun for a break from the competitive multiplayer chaos. S tolikim obiljem sadržaja, multiplayer Black Opsa 7 eksplodira od starta i jamči stotine sati online nadmetanja.

Zombies is back bigger than ever

For many Call of Duty fans, the real gem of the Black Ops series is the Zombies mode – and this week we're expecting the biggest and most ambitious Zombies adventure to date. Treyarch's Round-Based Zombies returns in the classic form of surviving waves of the undead, but on a map of unprecedented scale – the team at Treyarch has revealed that the initial Zombies map in Black Ops 7 is the largest in the history of the series. This massive map location – dubbed “Ashes of the Damned” – consists of multiple areas connected into one, with diverse environments for players to explore while fending off hordes of zombies. Vehicles play a significant role in Zombies mode for the first time - you will be able to get behind the wheel of a special "Wonder Vehicle" vehicle and wade through packs of the undead, which brings a new dimension to gameplay and escape at critical moments. Also, fans of the old Zombies experience will rejoice at the return of the so-called Survival Map - smaller, self-contained locations focused on pure survival action, not seen on this scale since Black Ops 2. Now you'll once again be able to choose whether you want to roam a large open map filled with tasks or test your survival skills in the limited space of classic survival arenas.

Narativno, Zombies priča nastavlja se tamo gdje je stao Black Ops 6 i nastavlja razvijati mračnu Dark Aether mitologiju. It is interesting that in Black Ops 7 teams from different Zombies eras will meet: the heroes from the story of Black Ops 6 join forces with alternative versions of the original four - the legendary characters Edward Richtofen, Tanko Nikolaj, Takeo Masaki and Dempsey. These iconic characters from the first Zombies saga return (albeit from a parallel reality) to help a new cast of protagonists face a never-before-seen nightmare. Mapa Ashes of the Damned odvija se u srcu Dark Aethera, gdje stvarnost i košmar postaju jedno te ništa nije kako se čini. Players will have to uncover the secrets of this depraved world, fight off hordes of enemies – including some brand new types of zombies and monstrosities – and solve intricate puzzles to escape the endless cycle of damnation. Treyarch also announces plenty of Easter eggs and challenges for hardcore fans, so the community will certainly have their hands full in uncovering all the secrets. Of course, the Zombies mode supports cooperative play with up to 4 players, so here too you will be able to join forces with your friends in the fight against the coming apocalypse. By all accounts, Black Ops 7 Zombies will be a true paradise for fans of zombie-mode - the combination of the largest map to date, favorite characters and new gameplay elements makes it unmissable.

Development team and technology

Behind Black Ops 7 are proven veterans of the series - the development of the game is led by the studios Treyarch and Raven Software, the same tandem that successfully delivered last year's Black Ops 6. This is also the first time that the Call of Duty series gets two consecutive sequels from the Black Ops sub-series in two years, which raised the question: how did they manage to release a new game so quickly while maintaining quality? The answer lies in the fact that the development of Black Ops 7 ran parallel to the development of Black Ops 6 - Activision approved and began work on both games simultaneously several years ago. Black Ops 6 had the longest development cycle in the history of the series (about four years), and part of the team immediately started creating the foundations for Black Ops 7. This synchronized approach to development was a unique challenge, but also an advantage - it allowed some innovations and ideas to be transferred from one sequel to another, and for Black Ops 7 to feel connected to its predecessor, but at the same time bring a completely new story and environment.

In addition to Treyarch and Raven, the game was worked on by a whole network of Activision studios that provided support in their specialties. For example, studio Beenox led the development of the PC version to optimize the game for different configurations. Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, High Moon Studios, Activision Shanghai and others also contributed to the development, covering everything from art design to online infrastructure. This collaboration ensured that Black Ops 7 deliver the ultimate experience on every system and in every aspect of the game.

On the technical side, Black Ops 7 uses the improved IW graphics engine of the new generation. Specifically, it is version IW 9.0, the most modern iteration of the internal engine that powers the Call of Duty games. This engine brings a number of improvements compared to the previous ones: advanced water simulation has been implemented (waves, liquids and effects behave more realistically than ever), the enemy artificial intelligence system has been significantly improved, and the sound has been designed to provide deeper immersion on surround and 3D audio systems. Of course, Black Ops 7 supports all modern graphics technologies – from ray tracing for realistic lighting and shadows on the most powerful platforms, to various resolution scaling techniques such as NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and even Intel's XeSS technology. Thanks to the optimizations of the IW 9.0 engine and the experience of the teams who have perfected it through multiple games, the game runs smoothly even in chaotic scenes with many effects. New generation consoles can count on high resolution and a stable 60 frames per second (with an optional 120fps mode where the hardware allows), while PC players will be able to adjust the details according to their capabilities. It's also worth mentioning that Black Ops 7 is designed as part of the unified vision of the CoD engine that Activision has been pushing for a while - meaning better integration with the Warzone platform and faster deployment of future content upgrades. The technological foundations are solid, and the visual presentation is impressive, so we can expect an audiovisual spectacle worthy of Call of Duty's reputation.

Black Ops legacy and links to predecessors

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is not just another sequel – it is in many ways a culmination of the stories and elements of previous Black Ops titles, bringing together the series' past and future. As mentioned, the story directly continues the events of Black Ops 2 (2012) and Black Ops 6 (2024), giving fans the long-awaited sequel to the Mason family saga. The character of David Mason, who we met as the protagonist of future missions in BO2, returns now more mature and facing the legacy of his father Alex and the ghosts of the past. On the other hand, the return of the villain Raul Menendez from BO2 officially connects Black Ops 7 with one of the most beloved stories of the series - his darkly charismatic antagonist left a deep mark, and now we meet him again a decade after his first defeat, in even more dangerous circumstances. For longtime fans, this is a wish come true: a continuation of a narrative that began more than a decade ago.

The connections are also felt in the multiplayer: three classic maps from Black Ops 2 return in the modern graphics of Black Ops 7, including iconic locations that will immediately awaken nostalgia. Imagine a return to the beloved Nuketown (yet unconfirmed, but fans are whispering) or other legendary arenas, now refreshed for a new generation - it is certainly a lure that few will remain indifferent to. The arsenal of weapons is also rich in references and heritage: some weapons that have appeared in previous Black Ops games will be available alongside new prototypes, creating an interesting mix of the familiar and the new. Even the Dead Ops Arcade mini-games return, harkening back to the days of the original Black Ops when we first discovered that hidden arcade fun.

The biggest "fan-service" certainly comes through the Zombies mode, which combines stories and heroes from all eras. The legends of the first Zombies saga (Richtofen's team from the World at War/Black Ops era) return, albeit in an alternative form, and meet the newer Dark Aether team from the Cold War/BO4/BO6 era. The screenwriters creatively used the concept of the multiverse and a time jump of 40 years to connect the different threads of the story into a unique new adventure. Black Ops 7 thus pays homage to its legacy while boldly pushing the series forward.

All of the above indicates that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is not just an iteration, but a kind of game that contains the best elements of the previous few installments and will unite old fans and attract new generations of players. Whether you're most interested in a tense campaign story, competitive multiplayer, or cooperative zombie-downing, Black Ops 7 has something spectacular for you. Get ready to step into the year 2035 and experience the peak of Black Ops action – November 14 is approaching and the battlefield is waiting for new heroes. Will you be ready to face the madness that awaits us?
