In an age where AAA titles strive for photorealism and hundred-hour epic stories, with complex mechanics and deep narratives, it's easy to burn out. Every game today has to be bigger, deeper, longer, more serious. It's as if the simple, primal fun that made us fall in love with video games as children has been lost.

Bullets & Brains zato is coming as dobrodošlo ljetno rashlađenje. Nintendov legendarni Satoru Iwata jednom je reas da video games moraju be just forbavne - ništa drugo. Iako volim kompleksne i duboke priče koje me lateje emocionalno razore, ova game mi je trenutno došla as naručena. Nekad ne wantsm razmouseljati, nego samo raznijeti stotine zombieja.

Zombie apocalypse with style

The very first hardcore riff in the main menu sets the tone: this is going to be loud, raw and fun. It's clear what this twin-stick shooter wants to be – and it doesn't try to pretend to be anything else. It's time for chaos!

You take on the role of one of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse, in a world that has fallen, but has not lost its sense of humor. Everything has that light touch, as if you jumped into rock'n'roll strip. The game doesn't ask you to take it seriously, and that's a good thing.

Doctor, can I take sick leave?

The survivor camp where you start the game serves as your hub and narrative anchor – there are other survivors, traders, a doctor, a head elder, and a simple story that unfolds through short conversations. The camp is not only a logistics hub, it also has an atmosphere. Post-apocalyptic tents, campfires, improvised warehouses... everything reminds of classic clichés from movies, but through the filter of cartoons. From here you embark on missions, upgrade your character and gradually unlock new content.

Uncomplicated gameplay

Misije su kwarke i konkretne, tparadiseu 5 do 10 minuta, what ih čini savršenthere is za brze runew ones after napornog dana. WITHvaka razina svodi on jednostavne ciljeve - uništi 3 zombie gnijezda, preživi određeno vrijeme, inbij dovoljno mobova – sve to dok pokušavate ostati na lifeu.

Evacuate me already, please!

What quickly becomes clear is that pace is key - you don't stop, you don't hide, you're always on the move and something is always exploding. Zombies attack in hordes and it's up to you to send them into zombie hell with your shotgun, machine gun, or disc launcher. The options are numerous.

Zombies drop brains that charge XP (check, we're collecting brains? Are we the villains?), and each level brings a selection of one-time perks: a shorter reload, additional weapons like metal discs that fly around you or a drone that shoots, health regeneration, and more. Between missions in the camp you unlock permanent skills, and with additional challenges you unlock access to new weapons.

The special attack is charged by breaking boxes and collecting energy, and slows down time and increases damage – perfect for destroying zombie nests or clearing a horde when you're surrounded.

Kamp nudi bogat izbor oružja, kozmetike i nadogradnji. Trenutno gamem as hillbilly s panda maskom i izgleda prekomično. WITH naprewhom otključavate new ones likove koji pripadaju jednoj od klasa - scout there is najalreadyu brzinu i staminu, tank najviše health, a soldier balansira sve. Iako lateji likovi there isju newhat  bolje odlike, ja sam se ipak najviše držao početnog Milesa, ćelavog bradonje u kariranoj košulji. Game podržava i local co-op  za dvois andgrača, what je ogroman plus. Ništa ne spaja ljude as zajedničko čišćenje zombieja dok klthere is bruji, a vani prži +40.

grad prepun zombieja

Brain drain is quite pronounced in this city

Rock n roll comic

This is a world of caricature, exaggeration and style. The game has an eternal and recognizable cell-shaded look reminiscent of a mix of Borderlands and Plants vs Zombies. The colors are bright, the animations are clear and legible, and the zombies are… cute? Yes, seriously. Their large heads and facial expressions add a grotesquely cute touch. Explosions are especially expressed by the inscriptions "BOOM" and "PEW".

The campaign narrative is functional but forgettable. The dialogues are there to justify the transition to a new zone, but without much emotional involvement. Honestly, I don't even remember the names of the characters and it's clear that the story was never supposed to play a big role here.

Everything works fluidly on the Switch – the frame rate is stable, loading times are short, and the game itself fits perfectly for shorter handheld sessions. Admittedly, the characters look a little grainy. I'm told that the console version is currently not at the same graphical level as the PC version, but that an upcoming update will correct that. Fingers crossed.

In the six hours of playing, I encountered several bugs - the text boxes during dialogue sometimes remain empty, occasionally I used to dash in place, and a couple of times I got stuck in a corner. It should be noted that the Switch port is by the publisher, No Gravity Games, not Ajvar Studio. Hopefully future updates will iron out those little things.

bug?

Reed obviously wants to warn about something important here, but we won't know this part of the story until a patch

The music deserves a special mention – the hard rock soundtrack keeps you tapping your foot as you reload your shotgun and prepare for a new horde of zombies. The music here is more than a background, it raises the rhythm of the game and keeps you in the flow. On the other hand, the weapons sound a bit monotonous. It doesn't have that satisfying shotgun click we're used to in Doom.

Conclusion

Bullets & Brains is a fast-paced, stylish and fun shooter with a simple yet addictive gameplay loop. He's not trying to do something wild, but to bring us back to simpler times when it was enough to pick up a gamepad and start shooting.

This is not a game for marathon sessions. It is ideal for moments when you need a quick dopamine hit, when you don't have too much time or after a long day you don't want to think - just play, when you have 15 minutes to spare and want to spend them surrounded by explosions, brains and good music. For the price of €15, and considering that it comes from a local kitchen, it is worth jumping into the explosive zombie massacre. Ajvar Studio did a good job, and I wish them the best of luck in their next venture.
