For nekoga who je odrastao na DOOM-u, Medal of Honoru, Wolfensteinu i sličnim FPS-ovthere is, ova it's a game pravo retro osvježenje među gamema s modernom grafikom. Newho who nije niwhen andgrao DOOM or starije Wolfenstein games, možda čak i bude nespreman za ovaj astični, brzi svijet s malo pixelsa, but puno akcije. Developers su Metacorp / Vaporware, čija je jedina uspješnica upravo Beyond Sunset. IN early access izašla je još 2023., but it is now izašla u punom i završnom sjaju. Proizvođači su slušali or čitali komentare tadašnjih gameča, you su neke stvari u međuvremenu 'izglancali'.
The main character of this game is Lucy (you will learn everything about her, whether you like it or not, due to the impossibility of skipping cutscenes). She is an enhanced street samurai, who loses all her memories and through fighting with yakuza, robots, ninjas and zombies, tries to get those memories back. To discover the ending and whether she succeeded, you need about 8 hours of the game. The setting is Sunset City. It is impressive and huge, especially for this type of game. Let
the areas may seem too simple, but everything is combined in a fun way and connected by vivid colors that easily catch the eye and the game never gets boring visually. We can say that the world is semi-open-world, where we can move relatively freely, but we know what our mission is and what needs to be done, so there is some linearity that always guides us.
The gameplay is very good, but sometimes aiming the weapon is quite awkward. Using the gun is quite clumsy, aiming doesn't always work right away, but at least we can "charge" it, that is, fill it for a few moments, so when we release the button, we can destroy the shield of opponents with a shield. Personally, it was more fun for me to fight with a machete, until you can't do it anymore because the opponents gradually become stronger and stronger. The best thing
the thing about using a machete is that you can deflect bullets with it. The fights are mostly in the style of arena fights, opponents appear (rows and rows and rows of opponents), and for the most part you can't go anywhere for so long until you solve every last one of them. One opponent at a time is easy to deal with, but when dozens of opponents appear, it is necessary to move and deal with them tactically. Traces of blood on the walls remain even when you return to the same area later, which is another one
an interesting and well thought-out detail. "Boss" fights are interesting and quite demanding, and the path to "bosses" is never direct - you have to solve puzzles and gradually reach them. The music is great, futuristic and for me the biggest link to the Cyberpunk 2077 game, because it irresistibly resembles the music from that game. At least to the industrial, techno part of the Cyberpunk soundtrack.
The game is made in the GZDoom engine, which is a highly modified version of the original DOOM engine, made for more modern games of its kind, but in the style of the old DOOM. It's quite impressive to see DOOM mechanics with a slightly more modern color contrast and more content to explore. DOOM is a very linear game, while in Beyond Sunset there is exploration and some wandering around a semi-open world. To conclude, developers Metacorp / Vaporware managed to make a fun game, which we played with a touch of nostalgia. It is proof that modern graphics and lots of pixels are not needed for something fun and full of action. If you agree with that and if the producers of this game succeeded in their intention to make a modern DOOM, find out for yourself because the game is available on Steam.
