Home / News / A few more independent games caught our attention at this year's Gamescom

After the first two articles, we bring the third part in which we have listed several games that we have seen, tried briefly or talked to the developers. and that they caught our attention.

Piratoos!

Piratoos! is an upcoming action-adventure where you control clumsy animal pirates in a physics-driven world. Cruise, plunder islands, engage in hilarious battles and face epic bosses. The game can be played independently, online in co-op or locally via split-screen.

Invasion

Invasion is an upcoming cinematic third-person sci-fi survival-horror game developed and published by independent studio Rocat.games. Set on a dying space station in orbit around an unknown planet, the game depicts isolation and inexplicable events — the crew is missing, alarms are sounding, and corridors are filled with inhuman screams. Everything starts with the player waking up in this eerie atmosphere, and the story is revealed through environmental storytelling.

Inspired by works such as The Thing, David Lynch and H.R. Giger, the game brings a combination of bio- and body horror elements, along with a brutal third-person action system and grotesque design of enemies — decaying and mutating corpses infected with alien parasites. The interface is minimal (diegetic), which enhances the impression of immersion in the game world

Ghost Haunting

Ghost Haunting is an upcoming 2D point-and-click adventure in charming pixel-art, a blend of nostalgic 90s style and modern gameplay mechanics. The game takes us through the story of a mischievous eight-year-old girl Gigi who discovers that her strict grandfather Giovanni is actually a famous ghost hunter. With the help of an unusual sidekick, a pumpkin demon she calls Baron Butternut, Gigi tries to bring her grandmother back from the world of the dead—with consequences that could threaten the entire world.

The game promises a relaxed and fun adventure: the classic "point‑and‑click" interface is supplemented with hint systems, fast travel and highlighting of interactive objects to avoid frustration — with the slogan "Not‑getting‑stuck‑guarantee" (without warranty). Njena atmosfera kombinira toplu, humorom prožetu priču o odrastanju, smrti i njihovoj međusobnoj povezanosti, with jedinstvene likove like djelomično živih zombieja, „deathstyle” trenera i druge bizarresti, but beige naglih skok‑strahova ("No jump scares. Probably.").

Developed by ThreeHeadedMonkeyStudios, with publisher DaedalicEntertainment, the game does not yet have an official release date.

Cathedral: Crow's Curse

Cathedral: Crow's Curse is an upcoming action-adventure game in pixel-art style, set in the same universe as the original Cathedral, but with its own story and prequel perspective. The game combines precision combat (parry, dodge, stealth) with the exploration of a seamlessly connected world filled with puzzles, traps and side quests. Some of the improvements include improved pixel‑art, dynamic lighting and fluid animations. The game also delivers a rich narrative focused on the mysterious Shade Sentinels and the origin of the curse that follows them.

Denshattack!

Denshattack! is an adrenaline-pumping action-adventure game where you drive trains through a post-apocalyptic Japanese landscape, performing spectacular tricks like flips, wallrides and rail grinds. With more than 50 levels, the goal is to defeat the Miraido Corporation and regain control of the railroad. Release scheduled for 2026.

Forge of the Fae

Forge of the Fae is an upcoming retro modern pixel-art style RPG developed by Datadyne LLC and published by Deck 13 Spotlight, the famous publisher of games like CrossCode and Chained Echoes.

We follow the adventure of inventor Fiora, who investigates a series of mysterious disappearances amid a labor strike in an industrial, Celtic-inspired setting.

Combat uses the innovative Crystal (ARC) system, combining spells, adrenaline and synergies for strategic, dynamic combat.

Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy

Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy is a party-based fantasy cRPG made by AtomTeam and released in Early Access on December 11, 2024.

Set in the rich and non-linear world of Nova Drakonia, the game offers players to explore villages, ancient temples, mysterious dungeons and hidden locations as you uncover a conspiracy that threatens the very existence of the world.

Inspired by Infinity Engine classics such as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Swordhaven offers a tactical combat system with the option of real-time-with-pause or turn-based combat, as well as a flexible, classless character system.

Fall of Dateus

Fall of Dateus is a dark fantasy action RPG prototype available for Windows. The game puts you in the role of the last hope of a dying world — sent by the gods, your task is to destroy a twisted sorceress who is destroying the land. Throughout the game, you have the ability to enhance your sword with elemental magic, extract the souls of defeated enemies and revive them to join you in the battle to save the world. Originally created as a vertical "slice" project for a 48-hour game jam, the prototype was developed as part of a student semester project.
