Honestly, I think we need more warm, positive games, and Monowave is exactly that. It is a platformer strongly focused on exploration, which seems ready to tackle serious themes and ask the right questions (and answers?) about the complexity of human emotions.
The story not only seems serious and encouraging for introspective thinking, but the gameplay itself is directly
related to the four main emotions that the game plans to address:
- Happiness – it will mainly revolve around jumping and, of course, classic platforming.
- Sadness – it will manifest through what can currently only be described as “water levels.”
- Anger – it will also be based on jumping, but in a much more aggressive manner, likely accompanied by
terrain destruction and clearing the path forward. - Anxiety – a combination of platforming and avoiding threats through various dangers and encounters.
All of this will be accompanied by an absolutely beautiful “scratch” visual style and music tailored to the context of each level that irresistibly reminds of earlier Nintendo titles. Monowave does not yet have a specific release date, but you can already add it to your wishlist on Steam. It will also be playable at this year's Gamescom video game fair in the indie zone Hall 10.2 F002.
