Mortal Sin is a dark and visceral first-person action roguelike game with some of the most painful and punishing gameplay in the genre...
But it’s also so damn good.
Mortal Sin is a game created by a single person named Nikola Todorovic who has been working for several years on improving not just the graphics but also the gameplay.
Even after the first swing of the sword, you will feel its weight. Every hit has momentum, every block and parry are the difference between life and death. Combat is the heart of this game and it does it perfectly. Its mechanics will always reward your precision and reflexes. Traps are not just there to harm you; if you are smart, you can use them to help yourself! But if you are not careful, bloody hands that spring from every wall might be your end.
One-on-one duels are always tense, especially on harder levels, while fights against groups become chaotic and full of adrenaline, all while guitar riffs play in the background. The game features 16 different classes and a ton of weapons.

Visually, the game has taken quite a bold path forward. Instead of photorealism, its artistic style resembles a dark graphic novel. Cell-shaded demons and lighting that will remind you of your worst nightmares. The game also offers an "original" look and a "realistic" look as options at the start... personally, I chose the realistic look since it looked much better. But the original also looks quite cool.
Where Mortal Sin falters is that the game relies heavily on having a player with skill in such games. The opponents are not very diverse, and in every cave, you will see the same enemies. The game also operates on a "one run" save system, which means if you die or finish the game, you will have to start over. Within the caves themselves, you cannot save unless you return to the starting level.
But it should be mentioned again that this game was made by one person and is available for sale on Steam for only 24.50 euros, where players have given it an "Extremely positive" rating, which allows me to overlook some of its shortcomings.
