Have you ever tried smashing things for fun? There’s something oddly satisfying about watching things crumble. Castle Crumble, developed and published by Orbital Knight, offers a clean, physics-based puzzle-destruction experience on the Switch: launch cannonballs, deploy TNT, trigger chain reactions, and watch structures collapse beautifully in a simulated world. If you’ve ever played Angry Birds, it has a similar intuitive gameplay for me. At its core, you use precision and timing to win. Each stage presents a uniquely designed fortress made of wood, stone, and metal. Each fortress has its own traits, so the fun is in the chaos of experimenting with angles, timing, and chain reactions to bring down structures as efficiently as possible. As the game progresses, more elements are added to the game such as dynamites, fuse bombs, magic beams, freeze rays and acids. Castles may also have shields, and the player may use more weapons to cause maximum damage. Boosters eventually become available for purchase in the shop. All in the name of mass destruction.
Castle Crumble’s visuals lean more toward a colourful and cartoonish take on the medieval world. The art, together with the sound effects, gives the game more life and dimension. Some players note that the stages in the game are easy to complete; however, it can get repetitive. It seems to be the type of game you’d casually play in between tasks and errands. I’d say it’s still worth a shot because, in a world that demands so much of us, maybe a quirky little puzzle game is all we need to take a breather. The game is available on various platforms such as Switch and PC.
