French publisher Ubisoft has announced that it has canceled the remake of the cult game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was planned for 2026, as part of an extensive reorganizational reset of the company. The decision is part of a broader plan that includes the cancellation of five more titles, some of which were unreleased projects and a mobile game, and is aimed at "reinstating creative leadership and sustainable growth."
Along with the cancellation of the Prince of Persia remake, Ubisoft decided to delay the development of seven other games to give them more time to achieve "increased quality standards". As part of the reorganization, the company plans to restructure the operating model, close or restructure some studios and focus on strategic priorities with an emphasis on quality and long-term value creation for players.
The move comes in the wake of an increasingly demanding AAA market that requires greater resources and careful project management, as Ubisoft looks to optimize its title lineup and resources for future development cycles.
