RIDE 6 – motori, motori, motori

The biggest change in this sixth installment of Milestone's RIDE game is that instead of completing events just for money or kudos, you're now riding in an international motorcycle racing festival. Furthermore, like various other races since Milestone, we've moved from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. While the models and resources in the game haven't improved drastically, the reflections, lights, and general "vibe" of the game have seen a pretty good final polish. And then there is RIDE Fest, which is the equivalent of this game's Forza Horizon (Festival). There's no open world to explore here, but the presentation feels similar, and thus future comparisons are inevitable.

RIDE 6 comes with two different driving experiences: Pro and Arcade.

r3

PRO is more or less what you may remember from previous RIDE games. While it's still customizable in its fine details, it all comes down to balancing your bike's weight in corners, brake management, even rider posture all play a role in how fast you can go. Settings can be adjusted to optimize your ride. Sometimes it's a little (too) difficult task on the controller, but an extremely rewarding experience/feeling when everything is going smoothly.

Another game mode is Arcade, and it's the most accessible ever in this series. Motorcycle handling is much easier to predict, much less prone to bumps, loss of balance in turns and the like. Unless you engage auto braking, you still have to commit properly to corners and can't brake comically late. This is a mistake that happened to us, so Arcade mode seemed to us to be at least as demanding as PRO mode of play.

RIDE 6 uspijeva pronaći dobar balans između ozbiljne simulacije motocikala i opuštene arkadne zabave. Ovo nije hardcore simulacija u tehničkom smislu.

Career Mode is where we recommend spending the most time. There is really quite a lot of content. The weight becomes heavier as you progress in your career. In the beginning, you will ride shorter and simpler races, often on rented bikes. As you progress, races get longer, weather conditions start to affect driving, tire wear becomes more noticeable, and eventually you reach full qualifying and endurance events. Progress is gradual and very satisfying. The career is not very easy and through it you can significantly improve your management skills. If you're struggling, the Bridgestone Riding School is a surprisingly rich addition. The school is divided into structured lessons that start with a demonstration, then give you a chance to practice, and finally challenge you to achieve and win gold medals. For example, if you defeat the instructor, you unlock ghost challenges that allow you to improve even more.

In addition to the career, there are the standard Quick Play options: Single Race and Time Trial, along with global rankings. What stands out in particular is the Endurance mode. There you can organize races that last from 20 minutes to a full 24 hours in real time.

What is not well done in the game are the opponents (AI) who often know how to collide with us while driving so that they don't try to avoid the collision at all. Rather, it looks to us as if they could hardly wait for it, rather than as a result of chance and that the opponents are avoiding the collision at all costs, which is not at all realistic.

Abstract:

  • the game runs smoothly and at 4K, 120 fps, with beautiful scenes while driving
  • the difficulty in the game itself is adjusted for different types of players through the Arcade and PRO option
  • the game has a good career through which you will spend hours to level up
  • it makes for a great motorcycle simulation that isn't too strenuous
  • the visual impression is excellent
  • the sound contributes to the atmosphere in the game itself
  • the game represents good value for money
  • the possibility of an open type of gameplay is missing
  • maybe for certain players it is necessary to introduce another completely beginner mode of playing (except for those who play this and similar simulations for the first time)

Final verdict:

★★★★

Very good game! It is very little short of declaring it an outstanding game. We have no complaints from the technical side. The best money can buy in the genre at the time of this review.
