PlayStation 6 goes on sale later than planned?

According to the latest information from the financial report, Sony may delay the planned release PlayStation 6 console, thus extending the life cycle of the PlayStation 5 more than many expected.

Senior analyst David Gibson from the MST Financial company pointed out in his report that Sony will probably extend the PlayStation 5 generation, which automatically means that the successor to the popular PlayStation 5 could arrive later than previously predicted.

"Sony expects the life cycle of the PS5 to be extended," Gibson said, adding that the release of the PlayStation 6 is likely to be pushed back compared to earlier forecasts.

While Sony has yet to officially comment on these claims, the analysis shows several reasons why a delay would make sense:

  • PlayStation 5 continues to sell strongly, and the financial results of the Japanese giant show that the segment of games and digital services is recording stable revenue growth. This gives Sony more time to make the most of the existing generation before moving on to the new one.
  • Unstable component prices, such as RAM and SSDs, further complicate the production planning of a new console. Some sources suggest that the industry is currently going through increased hardware costs, which could further affect release timelines.

In the worst case, the PlayStation 6 could go on sale around 2030.
