Microsoft is preparing a free version of Xbox Cloud Gaming with ads

Microsoft would may introduce a free, ad-supported version soon its Xbox Cloud Gaming services, recent tests and internal tweaks in the Xbox app show.

According to available information, this new model would allow users to stream games without an Xbox Game Pass subscription, in addition to watching the ads before playing — usually for about two minutes — in order to win up to an hour of gameplay per session.

Microsoft previously confirmed that they are testing an ad-supported version, and the messages in the Xbox app they mention "1 hour of gameplay with ads per session" suggest that a public beta test may be available soon, maybe already in the next few weeks.

The free plan is expected to offer limited access to selected games from the user's library, including retro titles and titles from Free Play Days program, with a total limit up to five hours a month.
