Ebola Village (Xbox Series X/S)

Ebola Village je još jedna u nizu survival horror naslova koja u velikoj mjeri kopira Resident Evil, uvelike posuđujući elemente iz te kultne igre kao i drugih old-school survival horor igara. Broj elemenata koji su ”posuđeni” odnosno kopirani možemo dugo nabrajati, ali istaknimo stvari poput sustava liječenja uz pomoć biljaka, upravljanje zalihama (inventory), sustav spremanja napredovanja u igri, atmosfera i okruženje, perspektiva iz prvog lica, dizajn zagonetki, trajanje igre, lutke, otvaranje vrata…

You start the game in your apartment as Maria.

At the very beginning of the game (before this scene from the picture above), Maria is sitting and watching her favorite TV show. She divorces her husband Ruslan after a turbulent relationship and is left with nothing. She also seems to lack clothes. Suddenly, the news interrupts the show to discuss a terrible biological outbreak that has reached Russia.

Maria calls her mother and tells her that she is on her way, but when she reaches the village, she finds that things have gone a little wrong. Then he decides to help his mother, and on the way he encounters various obstacles and overcoming opponents (killing), and we will not tell you whether he will succeed in this.

Before we can even head towards the village, we are forced to find the car keys and driver's license. Seemingly simple tasks, but to realize the same, it was necessary to break into someone else's apartment and encounter some creepy dark moments in which we expected the worst, which could not happen. Just typical for a horror game!

What fascinates or rather evokes nostalgia throughout the game are the interiors, which can certainly remind older generations of the Yugoslavian era. Playing this game you can accurately see the level of poverty and general neglect, but again, we have to admit there is some charm to it all whether it's nostalgia or not. 

Dok izlazimo iz stana na stubištu neki tip svira gitaru i pjeva na ruskom. Pretpostavljamo onu ,,ništa mi neće ovi dan pokvarit”, ali ne možemo sa sigurnošću potvrditi jer ne znamo ruski. Ipak priznajemo, njemu je najbolje, možda tu gdje je i najsigurnije.

The audio is exclusively in Russian, which means you have to rely entirely on subtitles, which would be fine if the localization wasn't so rough. The English translation is plagued by poor grammar and sentence structures that often border on nonsensical, which makes things hilarious, especially when you come across the story notes. At one point, you find a diary entry about a chainsaw-wielding madman who apparently cures hemorrhoids with cucumbers?!

The gameplay is quite chaotic. The controls felt incredibly stiff, and the aiming was shaky and imprecise at best, with the addition of the movement logic being quite confusing. So confusing that in one basement I literally turned around and walked out the door.

As expected, the opponents did not follow me, but when I returned to the same room again, I overpowered the opponents with ease. 

Enemy AI is mostly stupid and enemies chase you blindly, but they have incredible, almost sniper-like accuracy when throwing their weapons. Close-quarters combat is just as messy, and when enemies grab you, the camera pans awkwardly, creating a disorienting and unpolished visual cacophony. They let you in just long enough to organize yourself and make a crucial move to avoid being killed. 

As we mentioned earlier in the game there are puzzles to solve, and they work in the usual Resident Evil style and are fun to solve. The puzzles are made in such a way that you have to go forward on the map to then come back with certain elements and solve the puzzle. 

The game has several levels of difficulty, which allows you to adjust what is optimal for you. For example, in higher difficulty levels, you have limitations with weapons and harder to overcome opponents. 

Trajanje same igre je otprilike 3-4 sata, sve ovisno o vama i dubini istraživanja te brzini rješavanja zagonetki. Igra je namijenjena da se odigra više puta te su na taj način kreirana i postignuća/trofeji, ali moramo priznati to je napravljeno na potpuno iritantan način. Igra nema replay  value niti ćete s ponovnim odigravanjem doći do drugog ishoda priče. Ovo je više stvar forsiranja dugotrajnog igranja igre koja to ipak sa svojom ponudom nažalost ne zaslužuje.

The game has serious flaws that significantly affect the experience while playing, but despite this, some players who are the target audience, that is, fans of the genre, may like it.
