Serial Dynasty Warriors has been building its identity for more than two decades on the simple but addictive formula "1 against 1,000", but over time the repetition of the same battles and stories left an impression of stagnation. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is trying to change just that. This is not another continuation in the series, but a kind of one serial reset which returns to the beginnings, but interprets them through modern design, more emphasized tactics and a more serious tone.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version brings a complete experience adapted to a portable and hybrid console, with a focus on stable performance and readability of chaotic battlefields.

The return of the Three Kingdoms from a new perspective
The action takes us back to the period Three kingdoms, but this time through the eyes nameless protagonist who lost his memory. The story begins with the collapse of the Han dynasty and With the uprising of the Yellow Turbans, and gradually leads us towards key historical conflicts such as the battle of Chibi.

Unlike earlier games, the narrative is more personal and serious. The focus is not only on great historical figures like Cao Cao, Liu Bei or Sun Jian, but also on the motivations, internal conflicts and consequences of war on ordinary people. It is still a historical drama with a touch of romanticism, but much more mature and coherent than we are used to in the series.
Gameplay: less mindless button mashing, more thinking
The biggest change comes precisely in gameplay. While the basic idea of mass battles remains intact, the combat system is now heavily rewarding timing, positioning and defense.
In addition to the standard normal and strong attacks, a key role is played by:
- blocking and parrying (with precise windows for counter-attacks),
- evasion with a prize for perfect timing,
- Battle Arts i Special Arts which serve as tactical responses to dangerous enemy attacks,
- Assault system, which allows for devastating finishing blows when you knock down your opponent's “Fortitude”.
Combat against officers is no longer just a visual spectacle, but requires attention and planning, while regular soldiers in large formations can become a serious threat if you underestimate them.
Morality, tactics and war as a system
Dynasty Warriors: Origins strongly emphasizes battlefield simulation. Systems morale, courage of units, large formations and enemy "Grand Tactics" they make every battle dynamic.
If you ignore the situation on the battlefield and go on a "heroic campaign" alone, you can easily lose allies, bases and the entire battle. Usage Tactics commands, cleverly reacting to enemy plans and supporting allied commanders are often crucial to victory.
This is the first Dynasty Warriors that truly feels like it tactical action game, a ne samo hack & slash.

Progression, weapons and RPG elements
Character progression is based on ranks, skills i weapon system proficiency. The nine different types of weapons are not only for aesthetics, but also significantly change the play style and available abilities.
There are also:
- gems for additional bonuses,
- equipment and accessories that change statistics,
- relations with heroes which unlock special events and techniques,
- world map with missions, cities, skirmishes and RPG content.
They further increase the replay value different factions (Wei, Wu, Shu) and the branching ending of the story.

Visual and audio impression on Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is surprisingly stable. Although it cannot compete with more powerful home consoles in terms of raw graphics, the number of soldiers on the screen, readability of the battlefield and fluidity remain at a very high level.
The art style is more serious and "earthy", and the character design and animations clearly reflect the intention of a realistic depiction of war. The music skilfully combines traditional motifs with modern orchestral arrangements, while the sound effects further emphasize the chaos of the battle.

Disadvantages
Despite all the improvements, the game still won't be for everyone. Those who enjoyed the completely relaxed "clearing" of thousands of enemies without thinking might feel that the pace is slower and more demanding. Also, the mission structure shows familiar patterns over time, and learning all the systems can be daunting for complete newbies.

Final impression
Dynasty Warriors: Origins it's not just another sequel, it's at the same time the most serious and ambitious attempt to redefine the series. The combination of tactical depth, a stronger story and a modernized combat system manages to breathe new life into a familiar formula.
For fans of the series, this is a long-awaited refresh, and for new players, potentially the best entry point into the world of Dynasty Warriors.

Ocjena: ★★★★☆ (4/5) – Vrlo dobra
Dynasty Warriors: Origins nudi jedno od najkvalitetnijih iskustava u povijesti serijala. Malo joj nedostaje da dosegne status izvanredne igre, ali bez sumnje predstavlja najbolju verziju “1 vs. 1.000” akcije do sada – čak i na hibridnoj Nintendo konzoli.
